Through train windows, these photographs reveal moments from Marley Starskey Butler’s travels while undertaking assessments as a social worker. They illustrate their preparations, doubts, optimism, conflicts, thoughts, analysis, and emotions as they carry out their duties. The images are spontaneous, as the destinations of their journeys are determined entirely by the cases assigned to them. They travel only to fulfil a statutory legal duty, contributing one piece to the jigsaw puzzle of protecting children, ensuring the best possible care, and striving to keep families together whenever possible.
